Guidelines for
Donnell Century Farm
Activity Programs
Thanks for your interest in our AGademics educational programs at Donnell Century
Farm.
Students will have fun as they learn about their rural heritage. They will experience
plant and soil science in a restored mule barn built in the 1930’s.
We have prepared the following guidelines which will help
to ensure a great fieldtrip.
Please:
• Read the information in the
brochure
• Make sure all drivers have complete directions and map
as well as the phone number. Buses can park in the graveled
circle in front of our farm office and shop.
• Contact our farm a few days ahead with the number of
students and adults expected to come if very different from
original reservation
• Arrive a few minutes early to organize the group, and
count adults and students (separate counts for adults and students).
Before entering, allow leader to check in with us and pay fee
while group is lining up and getting quiet. Free admission
for 1 teacher and 1 aide only per class.
• A porta potty is located beside the barn. It will save
time if students make a restroom stop immediately before boarding
the bus or make a stop at a bathroom with multiple stalls if
traveling for a long distance. (For your safety and in respect
for our farm, please do not allow children to climb fences,
machinery, or trees, or run on the grounds.
• Prepare students to respectfully participate in the
hands-on program and make comments or ask questions when appropriate.
This program is designed for K-6 and is adjusted for varying
grade levels. Chaperones should make child care arrangements
for younger siblings
• Remind students to dress appropriately for the weather
since the barn is not air-conditioned or heated. Students should
bring a towel to sit on the straw which does scratch. Longer
pants also help protect tender legs. Sometimes classes find
it fun to wear white t-shirts and a bandana or western gear.
• Cameras are welcomed. Please let us know if you would
like a class picture and we will take time for posing. If you
want us to take a digital photograph to post on our website
(DonnellandDonnell.com) please tell us when you arrive. Families
enjoy viewing a photo of their child on the farm.
• Contact our farm as soon as possible if your group is
running late. Or needs to cancel.
• A picnic area is provided for your sack lunches brought
from school or home. Snacks need to be kept within the vehicles.
